Dr. Ananda V. Burra is an international lawyer and legal historian. His research focuses on two broad fields: the development and functioning of doctrines of forum non conveniens and deference in transnational litigation, and the history of international organizations and non-state engagement in the mid-20th Century. He has further expertise in the areas of restraints on trade, Investor-State Dispute Resolution, and international economic law.

Dr. Burra received his PhD and JD (US law degree) from the University of Michigan and his undergraduate degree from Williams College. Following law school, he clerked for the Hon. Joan Donaghue and Hon. Giorgio Gaja at the International Court of Justice in the Hague.  He has held academic fellowships at the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law at Cambridge University and at the University of Virginia.

Before joining BML Munjal University, Dr. Burra was a litigator at the international law firm of Jones Day in New York City, focused on international arbitration, and at the boutique firm of Emery Celli Brinckerhoff Abady Ward & Maazel, focusing on civil rights and transnational commercial litigation. Dr. Burra combines his academic research with consulting in the fields of transnational litigation and international arbitration.
