Prof. Lawrence Liang Takes Constitutional Scholarship to Cambridge and Boston

How constitutions imagine the future of democracy was the focus of recent academic engagements by Prof. Lawrence Liang of BMU’s School of Law at leading academic institutions in Cambridge and Boston, USA.

At the McQuillan Institute’s seminar, A Constitution for the 21st Century, Prof. Liang presented his paper, The Future of the Demos, examining how constitutions shape ideas of political belonging and future generations. Drawing on the constitutional experiences of India and the United States, the paper explored how these two democracies imagine the future of their people and systems of self-government.

Prof. Liang also participated in the ‘How Democracies Live’ symposium at the Harvard Kennedy School, contributing to discussions on how democratic institutions endure, adapt and renew themselves. During the visit, he met faculty from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University to explore shared research interests and potential academic collaborations.

These engagements reflect BMU’s commitment to scholarship that challenges established assumptions, encourages cross-cultural perspectives and contributes to global conversations on law, democracy, and society.
