    Kiran Karnik, columnist and author of four acclaimed books, is involved with several not-for-profit organizations. Presently, he is Chairperson of HelpAge India, and has also been President, India Habitat Centre (2006-18). Widely recognized for his work in the IT sector, as President NASSCOM from 2001 to 2008, he has been on many key government committees, including the Scientific Advisory Council to Prime Minister and the National Innovation Council.

    He has been on a number of corporate Boards, and was also a member of the Boards of Reserve Bank of India, IIM Ahmedabad, IIT Jodhpur, Ahmedabad University, and founding-Chair (2008-24) of Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-D).

    He began his career in Atomic Energy and then spent over two decades in ISRO, focusing on the use of space technology, especially for education and development. Subsequently, he was CEO of Discovery Channel and Animal Planet in India and South Asia. Earlier (1991-95), he was founder-Director of Consortium for Educational Communication, which oversaw production and transmission of UGC’s Countrywide Classroom TV programmes and its ICT initiatives.

    He has been conferred many awards, including the Padma Shri.
