Dr Kanupriya Dhingra’s The Sunday Book Bazaar: Daryaganj and the Making of a Reading Public in Delhi
For generations of Delhi’s readers, the Daryaganj Sunday Book Bazaar was more than a marketplace—it was an important part of the city’s reading culture. Built and sustained by booksellers and readers over decades, the bazaar became a distinctive space for discovering books, ideas, and communities.
In The Sunday Book Bazaar: Daryaganj and the Making of a Reading Public in Delhi, Dr. Kanupriya Dhingra, BMU School of Liberal Studies, brings this history to the page through archival research, interviews, and memories of the booksellers and readers who shaped the bazaar.
The work traces the resilience of a reading community that continued to thrive through generations, highlighting how books and the people who circulate them can create enduring public spaces for learning and exchange.
