Policy Insight Discussion Explores the Future of Democracies in an Uncertain Global Order

The Centre for Public Policy and Governance (CPPG) at the School of Liberal Studies (SoLS), hosted a Policy Insight Discussion on ‘Uncertain Global Order and the Future of Democracies’, bringing together leading voices to examine the forces shaping contemporary politics and governance.

The discussion featured Prof. Pratap Bhanu Mehta in conversation with Prof. Arindam Banerjee, Dean, SoLS. The speakers examined the changing nature of geopolitics, the evolving relationship between technology and state power, the future of globalisation, and the challenges confronting democratic institutions.

The conversation also explored the erosion of humanitarian norms, the rise of ethnonationalism, and the growing influence of artificial intelligence on political economies. It highlighted the need for renewed democratic imagination, responsible leadership and informed public discourse in navigating an increasingly complex global landscape.

Through initiatives such as the Policy Insight Discussion series, CPPG creates opportunities for students and the wider academic community to engage with contemporary policy questions through critical, informed and evidence-based dialogue.
