    ADMISSIONS OPEN 2025

BML Munjal University (BMU) actively promotes Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production through a variety of initiatives aimed at reducing waste, optimizing resource use, and fostering sustainability within its campus and beyond.

    Waste Management Practices

BMU has implemented a robust waste management system that segregates waste at the source and ensures proper recycling or disposal. Key initiatives include:

    • Solid Waste Management: Food and gardening waste are composted on-site, generating manure used for landscaping.
    • E-Waste Management: Old electronics are sold to authorized recyclers like M/s Bharat Oil and Waste Management Ltd., ensuring responsible disposal and recycling.
    • Hazardous Waste Handling: Toxic waste, including used oil and batteries, is managed through certified vendors, in compliance with environmental regulations.

The campus celebrates initiatives such as Zero Food Wastage Week, emphasizing mindful consumption and sustainable practices among students and staff.

    Water Conservation and Recycling

BMU employs water conservation measures such as rainwater harvesting with 20 pits across the campus, recharging groundwater and reducing dependency on external sources. The university also recycles wastewater from Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems for irrigation and flushing, optimizing water usage. Advanced water meters and dual-flow cisterns help monitor and reduce water consumption, aligning with sustainable practices.

    Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Infrastructure

The campus operates on energy-efficient lighting systems with a lighting power density significantly below national standards. Additionally, the university has installed a 246 kWp solar photovoltaic system, reducing reliance on conventional energy sources and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions. BMU adheres to green building standards during construction, utilizing eco-friendly materials and designs to minimize environmental impact.

    Promoting Sustainable Consumption

BMU prioritizes responsible consumption through various measures:

    • Encouraging the use of reusable resources and minimizing single-use plastics.
    • Running awareness campaigns to educate the community on sustainable practices.
    • Incorporating sustainability education into its curriculum to foster long-term behavioral change among students.

    Commitment to Zero Waste

BMU aims to achieve a zero-waste campus, implementing policies to minimize landfill contributions and maximize recycling efforts. By focusing on sustainable procurement and production processes, the university sets a benchmark for responsible consumption practices.
