Dr. Nishtha Phutela is an academic and researcher working at the intersection of technology, human behaviour, and real-world impact. As an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at BML Munjal University, Gurugram, her work spans health, education, and ubiquitous computing, with a focus on designing human-centred, data-driven systems.
Her research explores how technology can meaningfully improve lives. Current and ongoing projects include studying stress and sleep patterns in patients with diabetes to support continuous care, developing non-intrusive sleep detection methods using WiFi signals, investigating learning through neurophysiological and game-based environments, and using Virtual Reality to raise awareness in sensitive health domains. Her work has been published in leading SCI Q1 journals including International Journal of Human-Computer Studies, Multimedia Tools and Applications, and Computational Intelligence and Neuroscience.
Beyond research, Nishtha is deeply invested in experiential and product-driven learning. She mentors students to build real-world, deployment-ready systems — most notably UniSphere, an in-house all-in-one campus companion platform where students work in a quasi-professional, deployment-focused environment.
In her institutional roles, she contributes to digitisation and alumni engagement, working on platforms and processes that strengthen collaboration among students, faculty, and alumni across departments.
Her broader interests lie in technology-enabled healthcare and education, human-centred AI and data systems, and building institutional platforms for learning and collaboration. She envisions her work evolving toward integrated academic ecosystems where technology not only enhances efficiency, but also deepens understanding of human behaviour and outcomes.
