Lawyers need to acquire additional knowledge of business management, commerce, and policymaking in an increasingly complex and interconnected world where efforts to understand and define the changing dynamics of the economic, technological, and financial environments are already underway.
In contrast to the urgent need to disseminate practical, research-based legal information, most existing law schools in the country continue to emphasise theory-based learning. To ensure that our students approach law as aspiring practitioners learning the essential skills rather than just as an academic subject to be mastered, we designed our curriculum in conjunction with the industry's top practitioners.
We at BMU offer a BBA LLB (Hons) in collaboration with the School of Management for students who desire a deeper understanding of business and commerce and a legal education. BMU pursues excellence through a curriculum and pedagogy that emphasises creativity, innovation, a multidisciplinary approach, and hands-on learning. My internship at Wadia Ghandy gave me a different perspective to legal practice. During my internship, I worked on relevant issues related to Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016; Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 and other statutes. This is the first time I was preparing a legal draft and it felt like an achievement in itself. These three months have been extremely crucial to hone my research, problem solving and drafting skills.
