Strategic management is the management of an organization’s resources to achieve its long-term goals. It involves setting objectives, analyzing the competitive environment and the internal organization, evaluating strategies, and thereafter, ensuring that management rolls out the strategies across the organization. The strategy also shows how the firm will maintain/enhance its competitiveness. The process of strategy formulation and execution is cross-functional: it requires connecting the dots of various functional areas – Sales & Marketing, Supply chain (both inbound & outbound), Manufacturing, HR, IT, Finance, Legal, and Back-office.
